Principle of correspondence
‘As above, so below, so below as above’
The Kybalion states that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life. Thus the statement of ‘As above, so below, so below, as above’ is created. However, there is another statement often missing that also goes with this of ‘As within, so without, so without, as within’. Both are pointing at a similar meaning, albeit using different words.
This principle is basically saying how in our study of the micro we can gain access to the macro and vice versa. Just how in the study of Geometry enabling us to see distant stars, suns and planets whilst sitting in a room far, far away, the study of an energetic field of a blade of grass allows us to understand the universe.
This is because this principle says that man is the counterpart of God on earth, and that God is man’s counterpart beyond the physical sphere. That man’s action of earth parallel those of Gods in the spiritual plane.
You can see how this principle feeds from the first principle of the Universe being mental and thus all things are One and that by changing oneself you not only transform you but it also has an impact across the whole universe.
This principle is best described by an Astrophysicist called Neil deGrasse Tyson who was asked, ‘What is the most astounding fact about the universe?’
His answer was fantastic as he unknowingly described Hermetic law. He said that the most astounding fact of the universe is that the atoms that compromise all life on earth and that make up our human body, our traceable to the stars that collapsed and exploded containing carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. The ones that created our next generation of solar systems with stars and now habitable planets that formed around them. That we literally have the universe inside ourselves, so complete and utterly connected we are to it, simply by breathing and being alive.

That type of knowledge is frankly awe-inspiring but also gives us pause when we think about our day-to-day lives. Many of us feel powerless, despondent, and want to feel part of something bigger, more connected. Yet when we understand this Hermetic principle and the fact that modern day science proves this, we are ALL these things simply by default. Simply by getting on with our day to day lives, no matter how simple or mundane your mind may make it out you are literally expressing the universe in EVERY SINGLE moment.
And yet I also think this principle tells us even more. I touched upon this when talking about the first principle, but it shows that even the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference in people’s lives. I can only speak from my experience but it the small things that have been done for me out of nowhere which I have always remembered and cherished the most. I am always amazed whenever I worked with a person over in Spirit and describe the evidence to the sitter; it is often the small things the evoke such a strong connection and allows healing to take place as that small gesture or memory set off a chain of events that had a profound influence over someone’s life. That also goes for the person in Spirit as well.
Even if we only understand this principle intellectually at first, use it to throw off the shackles of the ‘little me’ that we often think we are, and use it to start the great reuniting with the One.
