Introduction to the Tarot Series

Welcome to the ‘Tarot series’. This page is an introduction to the ‘series’, explaining what you can expect from it and how it might help you understand the Tarot further and help if you use the cards to read for other people.

The most important thing to note is that this ‘series’ will not be dedicated to explaining each card’s meaning of the Tarot or spreads in lots of depth. This is because of two reasons. First, I feel that there is a huge number of books, articles on the web that have already explored this in a great amount of depth. You only have to type the card’s name into Google and it will greet you with a huge amount of links giving pages of detail on the card’s meanings and spreads you can use.

However, interestingly there is often a huge amount of information still left out about the cards. The Tarot carries so much more than divination meanings for readings, but yet this is what the vast majority of information is based on. It is not as often you read much about the link to the Qabalah and the Tree of Life or how the Tarot can help in your current circumstances rather than just predict an outcome.

Lastly, it is possible to do a fantastic reading of the cards whilst not having a full grasp on all their traditional meanings. In fact, too much focus on learning what each card means and trying desperately to remember them when giving a reading can severely inhibit your own intuition and thus completely miss the mark to what your client is looking for. The importance of this cannot be overstated enough and so I have devoted a later section to talking just about this.

Having said this it is still important to have a grasp on the traditional meanings of the cards, and it is why I have included a quick section on the cards in Part One. I will structure this ‘series’ in a way where one section builds on the next but if you are already an experienced hand with the cards then go to the section that interests you most.

The reason I created this series was because although Tarot has seen an explosion in recent years, some still see it as merely a prediction tool or even something of a gimmick to be used to get answers to a superficial problem in our lives. I would like to give a nudge to other ways we can use the Tarot and some tips for those beginners who would like to use the cards to read for others. I continually meet new Tarot readers who feel somewhat bewildered with having to learn all the meanings, the different spreads and then working out how to incorporate all of that to be able to give somebody a decent reading! It is my aim with some articles posted here to help grow your confidence in being able to use the cards to give someone a reading and perhaps shorten the learning the curve.

I fully believe by incorporating approaches here that resonate with you and even dropping what doesn’t, you will get some benefit out of this series to using the cards in the future.
