‘Newsletter – May 2025 – Journey before destination
‘The best thing about the future, is it comes one day at a time’ Abraham Lincoln
So, if you know me you know that I love my fantasy. Nothing is better for myself, than getting into a 5-book fantasy epic. What I have always found interesting when reading them and this is not just for this genre, is the author through his creative pathways he is using in his mind, can touch the spiritual realm as well. Through this within their story and likely unconsciously, they have woven in some spiritual truths that have come out of esoteric philosophy. Some are more obvious, whilst others amazingly aren’t even that well known to the wider public because of the practices happening behind closed doors. Why some of this knowledge continues to be closed off is anytime is has come out, it has often been abused. There is still a deep mistrust to this day of some eastern esoteric groups with sharing with the western world.
In one series I am currently reading a quote that has stood out is ‘Journey before destination’. Our minds are normally always thinking of ‘next’. When you are eating breakfast it is thinking what it wants for lunch. It is always striving to ‘get it’. If you think about it, this happens very early in our lives within the education system. Children want to get older so they can feel more accepted and have access to things. When they get there, they are told to work hard to get a good job. When this happens, they strive for the next milestone in their lives, eg. family, children, more money, a promotion etc. Still not feeling like they have ‘got it’ they search ahead again, to a time when they can retire and finally relax. Yet, even getting there, the source of that constant nag that they still haven’t ‘got it’ yet can elude them further. You see this in very successful people too. Every time they achieve success, they hurry on to the next goal, the next accomplishment. Now, while I am simplifying and generalising grossly, there are many people who are searching endlessly for the destination where all their problems and troubles are gone and they can finally feel at peace.

That will never ever happen, because what they are looking for is already here. Within the moment and day-to-day existence of our lives. Now your analytical mind will not understand this, so don’t even let it trto However, one of the best ways to experience this is to fall in love with the ‘journey’ rather than the ‘destination’. For example, if you are learning a new skill or looking to get the ‘next level’ in any of your goals, enjoy the practice of it, immersing yourself in this rather than the outcome. Even the inevitable tough days in your life, don’t seek to rush through them to the next positive experience, instead allow them to unfold at their own pace.
This is of course much easier said than done, but if done earnestly, it can put you on the path of one of the most powerful secrets within our lives. This moment is all you really have.
